Swiss company Sirius Aviation is set to officially unveil their hydrogen-electric SiriusJet luxury business aircraft at an expo in London this Thursday. The SiriusJet is a clean-sheet eVTOL design that utilizes a hydrogen-electric power train to drive 28 300 mm 1 kN electric engines.
Sirius Aviation CEO Alexey Popov will introduce the design at the MOVE Expo, which highlights the future of sustainable mobility.
“This launch marks a significant partnership between Sirius Aviation AG and BMW Group Designworks, blending state-of-the-art technology with elegant design,” the company announced. “The SiriusJet sets a new standard in aviation with its hydrogen propulsion system paired with luxurious business jet features. This pioneering approach signifies a major leap towards sustainable aviation.”
The hydrogen-electric system functions by drawing in oxygen through an intake in the nose of the aircraft, which reacts with hydrogen stored in a fuselage tank. This reaction produces electricity to power the motors and water, which is expelled through the aircraft exhaust at the tail, resulting in no carbon emissions.
Performance projections indicate a cruise altitude of 30,000 feet at a speed of 280 knots, producing less than 60 dB of noise. Sirius Aviation plans to offer the SiriusJet in two configurations: a luxury business version that seats four with a range of 998 nm, and a Millennium version that seats five with a lesser range of 564 nm.
According to the company, the first flight is expected next year, with certification and initial deliveries anticipated between 2028 and 2030.
