East Jefferson Rivals Athletics Director Shelby Box has been honored with the InSideOut Leadership Award by the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL Foundation and the InSideOut Initiative.
With nearly 20 years of experience as a coach, athletic trainer and mental performance coach, she oversees the athletic departments of the Port Townsend and Chimacum school districts. The InSideOut Award, presented by the InSideOut Initiative, recognizes individuals who train athletic directors and coaches to become transformational leaders, promoting a community of belonging for the social-emotional and character development of student-athletes. She completed the InSideOut professional learning series in the spring.
“InSideOut has equipped me with the tools I need to transform our athletic department into a purpose-based athletic department,” Shelby Box stated in a release from the Port Townsend School District. “It has helped me introduce common language to my coaches and enabled me to articulate and implement the vision I have for our program.” Her mission statement is: “I lead to help coaches produce better humans by modeling kindness and reliability.”
“We are excited to honor Shelby’s leadership and the deliberate actions she has made to offer students in her school community meaningful sports experiences,” stated in a statement Jody Redman, an athletic administrator, former leader of the statewide athletics association, and co-founder of the InSideOut Initiative. The InSideOut Leadership Award will be given to her at the June 20 Port Townsend School Board meeting.
