Apple Launches Beta Version of New AI Features, Including ChatGPT Integration

Apple recently released a beta version of its latest AI offerings, with such long-awaited integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, marking yet another step forward in the company’s strategy to enhance user experience through the powers of AI.

The operating system is another step in Apple’s continuing response to the greater demand of consumer technology for more sophisticated AI capabilities. The new features are initially only available to developers and those deemed early adopters, though will arrive with what’s expected to be a wave of iPhone upgrades-which of course, can only come on the latest models-only. Officially publicly available next week, iOS 18.1.

The major features of the beta version of iOS 18.2 include:

1. Text Redraft: Users can point out the way they would like Apple Intelligence to change selected text.

2. Genmoji: A creative image generator that aims to generate new emojis.

3. Image Playground: A service that utilizes AI to create images.

4. Image Wand: It is a feature that allows users to remove undesirable objects or distractions from images.

5. ChatGPT Integration: Users will now get benefits through more complex queries that would generate answers from ChatGPT.

Missing out from the update is however the much-awaited functionality that will enable Siri to start tasks straight from apps though Apple said this is coming soon.

This integration with ChatGPT makes Siri at times redirect certain questions to the OpenAI model to answer those queries in detail. This capability will be available to the users without having to maintain an OpenAI account. Furthermore, ChatGPT will also enable Apple’s Visual Intelligence feature, allowing users to make real-time recognition of text and objects from the camera of the device.

The collaboration with OpenAI has valued the latter market to $157 billion after a new funding round. Though details of the financial structures of the joint venture have not been announced, senior executives at Apple have hinted at the integration of other AI models into Apple Intelligence as well, perhaps from Google’s Research.

Going forward, the beta testing currently in place is likely to attract a huge user base looking to experience these fresh innovations from Apple as its AI capabilities get refined. The iOS update is expected to give Apple an unparalleled position in the very competitive artificial intelligence and consumer technology landscape.
