According to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, ten million users joined up for the newly released Threads app in the first seven hours.
He advertised it as a “friendly” alternative to Twitter, which Elon Musk bought in October.
Twitter users who are upset with recent platform changes may swarm to Threads, according to experts.
Threads allows users to publish up to 500 characters and has many features that are similar to those on Twitter.
Earlier, Mr. Zuckerberg stated that the success of the platform ultimately depends on how “friendly” it can be.
But Mr Musk responded: “It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter, than indulge in the false happiness of hide-the-pain Instagram.”
When asked on Threads whether the app growth, Mark said: “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it.
“Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully we will.”
The potential data use of the app has drawn criticism from rivals. According to the Apple App Store, this might include browsing, health, and financial information connected to users’ identities.
Concerns about the inability to deactivate your Threads profile without simultaneously deleting the related Instagram profile have been raised by some users.
Meta told the BBC: “At this time, you can’t delete your Threads profile without deleting your Instagram account. This is something we’re working on. In the meantime, you can deactivate your Threads profile at any time.”
“Deactivating your Threads profile will not deactivate your Instagram account”.
